The Poncha Pass features a tract of land with a dugout cabin, corral and small gold mine. It is owned by the Boy Scouts and is used for their Rocky Mountain High Adventure base. The dugout is rumored to be haunted, as murmurs and moans are heard coming from it during the night. Legend says that back in the 1600's, some gold was buried around the area by De Anza. But a miner found the old Spanish gold, and shortly after, he told people about lights and voices that had ordered him to relinquish the gold and leave town. He didn't listen to the warnings and he was found scared literally to death, locked in the dugout, without a single mark on his body. The area is also rumored to be haunted by another spirit, an old man in tattered gray Civil War clothing who either salutes you or asks for help before disappearing.
